Dave Whelan has bought the 52 JJB Fitness Clubs and attached retail stores. Not only was Dave the original founder of JJB Sports, he was also the Chairman and principal shareholder in JJB Sports Plc until he sold the business in 2007.

DW Sports will offer a unique concept that we hope will be the most exciting sporting experience of the year. Working more closely than ever with retail, we will achieve a retail offering that suits the needs of all our members, whilst still maintaining the award winning* standard of Fitness Club.

You will notice little changes such as the signage, different staff uniforms and new style membership cards, etc etc. However, everything you like about your club including exercise classes, and low membership prices will carry on. Member offers in retail will also grow, ensuring we add further value to your membership. What more the clubs will continue to grow with 9 more clubs planned to open in the next 18 months.

Dave Whelan shares our passion for cleanliness, good operational performance and expects members to get excellent value for money. The future of our wonderful clubs is safe in hands.

WHO IS DAVE WHELAN?
Dave Whelan is a former Blackburn Rovers footballer who is now the multi millionaire owner of  Wigan Athletic FC.  A passionate advocate of the fitness clubs Dave has the reputation of never doing things ‘by halves’. He took a single sports shop in Wigan and built it into the  400+ JJB retail superstore chain  and never one to shirk a challenge he bought Wigan Athletic and took them from the old 4th Division to a top ten team in the Barclays Premiership within a decade. Such is his drive and passion, he expects them to be playing in European competition within the next couple of seasons.   Dave is now in his 70’s but is still a keen sportsman and can be found in his local gym at least three times a week.
