Benefits of Group Exercise

• 85-90% of people prefer to exercise in a group

• With an instructor there to motivate you for the whole class you will work harder and push yourself for longer

• With an instructor you’re more likely to complete a well rounded exercise routine and if they say to ‘pick up the pace’ you are more likely to do it over exercising on your own

• New releases and new choreography keep the music fresh and enjoyable, which from feedback plays a big part in powering a workout on

• You can have the same class type e.g. pilates but each instructor will have a different teaching style and structure to their class so in one club you have many varieties of the same class to enjoy

• Working out in a group creates a buzz and a good atmosphere

• It’s fun!

• Very social aspect to classes you can work out with your family, friends and partner

• You can meet new people

• A new member is more likely to take part in a class they have never done than to walk into a free weights room and start working out on their own, this is particularly true with women

• Group exercise gives members a sense of belonging with familiar faces in classes and familiar instructors, from there they can built up confidence to use other aspects of the club.

• The instructor will be changing the workout, progressing and varying it every couple of months so the member is constantly challenged

• Many people view exercise as something that has to be done but not enjoyable, group exercise makes it enjoyable!

• Friendly and welcoming atmosphere

• Timetables are designed to fit in well with your daily routine

• The combination of improving your fitness, meeting new people and learning a new skill produces an excellent confidence boost

• You can learn a new skill such as dance e.g. zumba and ballroom

• It’s structured exercise, members are guaranteed to get a workout every time they come to a class • Class members compliment, encourage and support each other

• There is camaraderie from a class

• Working out in a group provides accountability and structure to attend on that day at that time each week

• Classes with specific routines e.g. pump, zumba, aerobics etc encourage members to keep attending as they get to know the routine and they want to learn it as each time they do it they get more and more of a workout, as well as feeling they are achieving something.

• Members get a feeling of achievement from completing classes they may have never thought they could complete a 50minute workout on the gym floor but with the instructor and group motivation they will continue to the end

• Exercising in a group encourages members to bring more people into that group such as friends and family, so it’s good for class members for company, good for class numbers and fantastic from a business perspective

• New research suggests that group exercise unleashes a flood of chemicals in the brain, triggering the same responses that have made collective activities from dancing and laughter. For some (but not all) people, finding workout buddies could help turn fitness into a pleasant addiction.

• Exercising in a group makes it fun and enjoyable and changes exercise from a chore into a lifelong habit
